What is CLEP?

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP), administered by College Board, offers 34 exams that cover introductory level college course material. With a passing score on one CLEP exam, you could earn three or more college credits.

What schools accept CLEP?

Over 2,900 schools accept CLEP exams for college credits. To see if your school of choice is included you can visit https://clep.collegeboard.org/clep-college-credit-policy-search and search for your school’s CLEP policy.

When can I start?

CLEP exams are available year-round and they even allow the option for online testing. It’s best to get started as soon as possible to begin earning credits towards your degree.

How long will it take to earn credits?

CLEP exam preparation is self-paced, so it depends on the individual.  However, students have reported preparing in just 2 - 3 weeks per exam topic.

How much does CLEP cost?

Each exam costs $90, not including exam prep and resources. However, with Tuition Hack: The CLEP Method, you can discover how to access free prep resources and take CLEP exams for free!

Do CLEP credits show up on your transcript?

CLEP credits are processed as transfer credits and appear on your transcript as either “pass”  or “complete” for the course requirement.

Can CLEP raise my GPA?

CLEP credits have no affect on your GPA. Your transcript will only reflect that you’ve passed the course.
